The most fundamental and essential body part for performance in the dancer is the abdominal group of muscles. Similarly, the
abdominal group of muscles is the most essential body part for achieving success in Isoflex.
Dancers need firm, strong
abdominal muscles to support the spine and maintain proper alignment. Good stability in the torso and the limbs require
additional strengthening exercises. Any area not strong enough will affect all other areas, as well as the satisfactory working of the whole body.
Isoflex is a combination of various exercises structured in a specific way to ensure a strong and flexible body. It consists primarily of isometric contractions, static-active and static-passive stretching.
What Isoflex will do for the dancer:
In Isoflex each movement links breathing with strengthening and stretching. The dancer will learn how to breathe deeply,
allowing oxygen to nourish the muscles being utilised, and to release unused gasses stored in the muscles. This will result in
increased stamina and prevent post-dancing soreness.
Isoflex will teach the dancer to use the abdominal group of muscles to support every movement. The dancer will learn how to
work the muscles in harmony with one another. For example: When lifting the leg up to its maximum height, the dancer will imagine the movement of the leg being initiated from the abdominal muscles. The dancer will now feel the same leg movement
affecting the back, buttocks, quadriceps, hamstring, calf and foot, while the abdominal muscles are used to support the
movement. The body is now working as a unit.
Isoflex teaches the dancer to focus on tight abdominal muscles, and a lengthening of the back. Correct posture must become a
habit so the dancer can focus on other areas when dancing. There is nothing more beautiful than a dancer with correct body
alignment. It saves the dancer from posture-related problems and chronic pain, especially low back syndrome that sometimes
affects professional dancers. Correct body alignment helps when the pelvis is tilted, and when doing certain movements and
focussing on turn-out.
Isoflex gives the dancer strong abdominal muscles which result in more grace and elegance when doing slow controlled
Isoflex will enhance the dancers control when bending forward or leaning back and extending the lumbar spine. Control is an
essential key to the quality of the dancers movement.
The strong abdominal muscles trained for in Isoflex will improve the dancers balance and ensure pelvic stability when rotating the
legs, transferring weight and changing direction.
Isoflex teaches the dancer to relax the muscles that are not being worked so that no undue tension is created unnecessarily. This gives the dancer a sense of body control and also prevents soreness.
