It is exciting times In South Africa with the arrival of Ceroc! Ceroc has been abroad for decades and now its officially here! Ceroc originated in the early 1940’s. The second world war brought more than just bombs. It brought the Jive on to the Latin dance floors of France and Spain. From there it was given the name ‘C’est Roc’ meaning ‘The Dance’ in French. It has since evolved in name and style to become known as ‘Ceroc’. It is a fusion of Latin, Ballroom and Jive.
‘Ceroc’ has become the Trademarked name for this internationally popular style of Dance. In the UK alone there are 170 venues operating weekly. It is popular because it’s so easy to learn and you can dance to all types of music.
Ceroc was officially established in South Africa in late 2005, by Helen and Andries Els. Helen, a New Zealander and former Australasian Champ began dancing in Auckland. She went on to dance in the UK for five years and has since more here with her Afrikaans husband.
Their goal is to develop Ceroc Venues across South Africa over the next ten years.
‘Ceroc’ evenings have a lively buzz about them. You can arrive without a dance partner, pay at the door and just join in. There are no registration fees or long term requirements.
