In 1965 some erstwhile members of the RAD and Cecchetti societies got together to bring together all professional dance teachers under one umbrella, to draw up a code of ethics and provide a platform for various activities for the students of members. As the society grew, various other disciplines were incorporated and now includes Modern, Tap, Greek, National and Spanish. The society has over 200 members countrywide and offers opportunities for dance students to vary their experience in different ways. What we offer:
Dancers Badge Tests.
Comprising 32 different dances – choose from ballet, national, Greek, Free Movement and Modern, which can be performed in your studio or on the stage. Tests are conducted by two NSDT judges and the candidates receive a written report, symbol and, if successful, a coloured badge is awarded.

Classical Ballet Graduate Awards.
Five levels of classical ballet syllabus comprising a barre, centre practice and a choice of allegro enchainment which can be presented for assessment on stage or in the studio.

South African National Championships in Ballet and Modern Dance is held annually in Johannesburg and attracts candidates from all over South Africa. Prize money totalling R19 000 is awarded in various categories. Open to juniors and seniors who perform optional set pieces and repertoire and a final round of their own choice.
Every 2 years a Bursary Award is held to establish a winner(s) for an amount in the region of R30 0000 for further study.
